Each shoe is designed for an average runner or walker; however, very few individuals are average. This personal shoe wear number represents the estimated number of steps your shoes can absorb before they no longer provide you adequate protection from the forces associated with running and walking.

Shoe replacement is different depending on the type of runner or walker you are. Please see below for your individualized answer:
1. The ‘few days a week’ runner/walker (one pair of shoes)
When the Shoe Life screen on your Shoe Odometer indicates Wear: 0%, transfer the Shoe Odometer to a new pair of shoes. Enjoy running/walking knowing that you are doing your best to protect yourself from injury.
2. The ‘multiple days in a row’ runner (rotating between two pairs of shoes)
When the Shoe Life screen on your Shoe Odometer indicates Wear: 30%, begin to rotate in a new pair of shoes with a second Shoe Odometer. Rotate your shoes between runs. When the new shoes are broken in, use these on your hard runs and the old shoes for the easy recovery runs. The Shoe Odometer comes with a default of 1,350 steps per mile. To individualize this number, use the Steps screen on your Shoe Odometer to record your average steps taken in a measured mile. Enter this number in the steps/mile screen.
- 14. Will the Shoe Odometer record extra steps in my gym bag or while driving in a car or traveling on an airplane?
Answer
The Shoe Odometer may record extra steps when traveling. To avoid this, make sure to set your Shoe Odometer to travel mode. This will put your Shoe Odometer into a sort of hibernation until you turn it back on.
