History

The founder and owner of the company, Rick Cleary, is a serious runner with a marathon personal best of 2:44 and a long-standing high school distance running coach with many athletes competing at the state championship level.

As a coach, he had a recurring problem; most of his runners didn’t know when to replace their shoes. He knew that when runners replaced their shoes on a regular basis, they had fewer injuries. Recording shoe wear in a log seemed to be the only solution; unfortunately, his runners found the practice of keeping a log tedious. An idea came to him one day while driving home from practice. His vehicle’s odometer automatically tracked mileage; couldn’t the same concept work for shoes?

This product was designed and tested by real runners and walkers. Feedback and countless hours of testing from everyday ‘road warriors’ to top-level college athletes were incorporated into the development of the Shoe Odometer. Without the support and assistance of these individuals, the creation of the Shoe Odometer could not have been realized.

The goal is to help active people stay healthy. The Shoe Odometer makes it easy for walkers and runners to know when to replace their shoes, potentially leading to fewer injuries.

The decision to manufacture the Shoe Odometer in the USA allows for a higher level of oversight by the founder, thereby creating a superior quality product.

All marketing and shipping materials are made from recycled paper. The Shoe Odometer doesn’t require frequent battery changes; thereby minimizing the effect battery disposal has on the environment. Running and walking are healthy pursuits; it's important to keep the environment healthy, too.
